The Helen Hayes Award Nomination Celebration captures the vibrant, energetic spirit that is distinctive to Washington theatre. “This party is absolutely like no other,” said Linda Levy Grossman, President and CEO of theatreWashington. “Imagine all of this extraordinary talent in one room at one time. It is incredible to watch such amazing artists, contemporaries and colleagues, truly excited and supportive of each other’s accomplishments.“

The culmination of the event is the “Class Photo,” a one-time opportunity when all nominees gather for a most unique photo op. Added Ms. Grossman: “Last year’s ‘class photo’ was especially poignant because at the center of the group – and indeed of our hearts – was Jaylee Mead.” Mrs. Mead, a philanthropist and long-time Helen Hayes Awards and theatreWashington Board member, passed away a short time later in August, 2012.

This is only the fourth time in the 29-year history of the Helen Hayes Awards that the Nomination Celebration has been held. Victor Shargai, Chairman of the theatreWashington Board of Directors, added, “As part of the Awards festivities, it has always been a priority to give all nominees, not just Award recipients, an opportunity to take center stage. We are absolutely thrilled to be working with the Hamilton to make this celebration possible.”
