The Washington theatre community and theatreWashington lost one of its pillars on June 9, 2013 when Zev Remba passed away suddenly. While you may not recognize his name, if you are reading this tribute, you are familiar with his brilliance.

Zev was the co-founder, with Michael Quattrone, of Unconformity, LLC, an integrated design and marketing firm. The award-winning company serves many clients throughout the world, including theatreWashington. 

As the initial Managing Editor of theatreWashington.org, I had the privilege of working very closely with Zev to establish theatreWashington’s cutting-edge website.  There would be no theatreWashington.org without Zev.  His knowledge and vision was critical in shaping, building, and creating the website, and in helping theatreWashington redefine itself.  If there were a way to dedicate a website like we dedicate buildings, I can think of no more fitting way to recognize part of his legacy to theatreWashington.

Yet, the website is only a tiny part of Zev’s legacy. He was integral to developing theatreWashington’s branding, messaging, and communications. He was amazingly creative, thoughtful, smart, and tireless in all he did for theatreWashington.

In addition to working with him on the website, I had the honor of calling him a friend and spending time outside of work with him.  He was the friend, life partner, supporter, and soulmate of Linda Levy Grossman, President & CEO of theatreWashington.  I have never seen Linda happier than when in Zev’s company. Zev also was a kindred spirit in his devotion to his children.

We have lost one of those rare people who passionately cared about his work, family, and friends but didn’t need the spotlight. On behalf of theatreWashington, I hope this Final Bow sheds deserved limelight on Zev’s many contributions to the Washington theatre community.
