The Cherry Orchard

DC's favorite Fools take their first foray into the works of Anton Chekhov, with The Cherry Orchard. Complete with secret plots, wily servants, tortured lovers, and a sprawling family estate on the chopping block, you'll find out why Chekhov himself insisted he wrote comedies! With Faction of Fools inimitable brand of physical comedy, Chekhov’s classic is brought to life showcasing the multifaceted essence of the text. Come see this mix of high art and low comedy, that is sure to bring tears and laughter, as Faction of Fools rediscovers a classic. Performances run May 18th – June 10th, 2018 in the Eastman Studio Theatre at Gallaudet University.

For almost a decade, Faction of Fools has been celebrated as DC's award-winning Commedia dell'Arte Theater Company. Faction of Fools Theatre Company is committed to performing and preserving this Renaissance theatre style by bringing to the stage productions infused with Commedia's best attributes: physical discipline, spontaneous imagination, collaborative energy, and joyous wonder. Having tackled the works of Shakespeare, Moliere, and Wilder the Fools are excited to add the works of Anton Chekhov to their repertoire.

Faction of Fools' Producing Artistic Director Paul Reisman directs. Reisman adapted and directed Faction's Pinocchio! (nominated for a Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Production, Theatre for Young Audiences), co-adapted their acclaimed A Commedia Romeo & Juliet, and has directed and appeared onstage in innumerable Faction of Fools productions since 2011. A graduate of the Shakespeare Theatre Company's Academy for Classical Acting at George Washington University, Reisman is rooted in classical theater performance and scholarship in addition to physical comedy. In Washington, DC he has directed productions at Flying V Theatre, Brave Spirits, and We Happy Few Theatre Company. He has appeared onstage locally and nationally with companies including Shakespeare Theatre Company and the American Shakespeare Center.
